Who doesn’t love to save money? However, it is not as easy as it seems. Often, I find myself spending more than I would like then when I really want to make a big purchase or save for an extra fun vacation, I just don’t have the money. This year, I decided as one of my New Year’s Resolutions to focus on ways that I can save money.
Make sure that you bookmark this post as it will serve as a table of contents for the entire series. As each new article is posted, I will add it here.

One of my goals for this year is to stock away a bit of extra cash (as we’re hoping for a Disney trip), so I’ll be following this series, too!

I do a zillion little things to save money, lol…but here is the short ‘off the top of my head’ list: detergent, vinegar for fabric softener, Epsom salt fabric softener, DIY ‘dryer sheets’, use the shortest wash cycle that will clean the particular load of laundry, toss a dry beach towel into the dryer with wet loads, dry loads back to back to use the built up dryer heat, line dry clothes in/outside of the house and on racks, wash in cold when possible(dryer/sun kills germs), cook with Crock Pot and/or grill when possible as it uses less energy and heats the house less in summer saving AC costs, shop loss leaders in bulk, buy things like dishwasher pods in bulk from Amazon or $ stores (also do this for TP, paper towels–more on that–, soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, foil, razors, female products, etc…., use cheap, white wash clothes as clean up clothes in the kitchen to cut back on paper towel use (these can be bleached!), use cloth napkins (I bought a ton of bandanas from Amazon cheap for this use and I bought several from a linen outlet too–the color choices weren’t vast, but who cares?!?!), I switched from Swiffer/products to a ‘mop’ with a refillable container for solution (vinegar or water-alcohol-bit of dish soap mixture, etc.) and a reusable/washable mop head (microfiber clothes work great for mopping with this too), DIY scouring solution, installing outlet/light switch insulators to prevent drafts, switched to insulated curtains in a room with large windows, switched to CFL bulbs for most lights, started turning lights/TV’s etc. off when not in use, bundled my car trips to include several errands to use less gas, cooked from scratch, make my own seasoning mixes (meatloaf, steak, taco, fajita, chili, etc.), tried couponing–then buying only generics with n o coupons….the generic shopping wins for me, although I do use coupons for random things occasionally, change our own oil, repurpose things, shop for clothes on eBay, Twice, etc. (haven’t tried ThredUp yet but plan to!), forego convenience store food and coffee most of the time, find a reusable ‘go cup’ and use it vs. paper, make my own extracts like vanilla, lemon, mint, almond, smash TP rolls so they don’t rolllllllll 100mph (lol), use ‘dumb’ phones vs. smart (not for everyone, I know, but a consideration for some), cut back on cable and/or use an antenna like Mohu and use Roku device for internet streaming, make DIY windshield wiper fluid for vehicles, got an account with SwagBucks and saved enough Amazon gift card dollars to buy a Kindle Fire HD FREE this Christmas, yard sale things we don’t want/need, buy gift cards for gifts at Cardpool.com to save a few dollars (added up at Christmas gift giving time!), started growing a few things like tomatoes, peppers, herbs, squash, etc. and started COMPOSTING!! I love composting and it afforded me all the rich soil I needed come planting time. These are a few ways I started saving! Hope some of them are useful to someone! God bless!
